Are You At Risk?

Childhood cancer is relatively rare. Unfortunately, the same is not true for adult cancer. One in every two men and one in every three women will be diagnosed with some form of cancer during their lifetime. The most common risk factors for cancer include:

Age: The risk of cancer increases as you grow older. An estimated 67 percent of cancer deaths occur in people older than 65.
Unhealthy Habits: Drinking too much alcohol (more than one drink a day for women and two drinks a day for men) increases the risk of cancer. Smoking tobacco is linked to at least 15 different cancers.

Too Much Sun: A beautiful tan can actually kill you. Unless you use plenty of sunscreen, exposing the skin to the ultraviolet rays of the sun can increase the risk of skin cancer.

Family History: Cancer of the skin, breast, ovary, prostate and colon tend to run in families. You may want to consider genetic testing to see if you have an increased risk for these cancers.
