Female Incontinence

Female Incontinence

Ten percent of women will experience bladder control problems, often called incontinence. Here's Firstname M. Lastname, M.D., a Board Certified Obstetrician/ Gynecologist with Name of Hospital/Medical Center, to discuss this important health issue.

What is incontinence?

Incontinence is the inability to control your bladder and urination. It may be temporary or permanent and can result from a variety of problems.

What factors cause incontinence?

Incontinence is usually caused by stress in the pelvic area. Bladder control is often related to what is sometimes called a falling uterus, which occurs when the uterus does not have enough support. Age, weight, and the number of children a woman has had can be factors.

How do you treat incontinence?

It is important that we sit down with the woman, obtain a complete medical history and make a thorough examination in order to make the correct diagnosis. Often we can treat the problem with a combination of medicines, physical therapy, exercise and surgery.

Are there other related problems you can help women overcome?

Abnormal vaginal pressure is another problem we often see. It is sometimes associated with a lack of bladder control, but it can also be an entirely unrelated problem. Many women with this condition are afraid they have a tumor, but again, a combination of medicine, physical therapy, exercise and surgery can usually cure the problem.
