Having a Baby

Having a Baby

Having a baby is one of the most exciting and joyful experiences in a woman's life. But careful preparation during the pregnancy is vitally important for the infant's health. Here's Firstname M. Lastname, M.D., a Board Certified Obstetrician-Gynecologist with Name of Hospital/Medical Center, to tell us more.

What advice do you give women to ensure a healthy pregnancy?

I advise pregnant women to learn all they can about what's going on in their body and what to expect. This reduces anxiety and helps them focus on doing all they can to promote a healthy pregnancy. I encourage awareness, goal-setting, exercise and a healthy diet. They should eat foods rich in protein (meats, beans, nuts), foods with high amounts of calcium (milk, yogurt, cottage cheese) and green vegetables (salads, spinach and broccoli). I also recommend a low-impact exercise program such as walking or swimming. Labor is an endurance event. The better shape you're in, the easier it will be.

What is your approach to childbirth?

I see childbirth as a natural event. My job is to support the woman, and help make it a joyful experience. Whenever possible, we honor the woman's choices.

But what if there is an emergency?

As an obstetrician, I've delivered many babies and have special training in dealing with high-risk pregnancies. Thanks to my training as a physician, I have the experience required in the unlikely event there is a medical emergency.
