Live It Out (Childhood Obesity)

Live it Out

Poor nutrition and lack of exercise are the two leading causes of childhood obesity. Here are some positive ways to help make sure your child doesn’t become “supersized.”

Go Inside Out: Encourage your child to go outside and play. Any activity that gets them moving—playing tag, jumping rope, hide-and-seek—is burning calories.

Say No To The Boob Tube: Limit TV and non-school computer time to no more than two hours per day. Get School On Your Side: Check to make sure that your child has a regular physical fitness period at school. Ask about the nutritional value of the meals served at school.

Junk The Junk Food: Try eating less at fast-food restaurants, where most menu items are high in both fat and calories.

You Can’t Beat Water: Sweetened beverages, even those that contain fruit juice, are high in calories. Water has 0 calories.

Stay On Top Of The Situation: Have your child’s weight and height checked regularly by your pediatrician.
