What is menopause?

Menopause is a natural event in which a woman cases her menstruation and ovulation. It marks the end of a woman's reproductive years. In the U.S. the average age for menopause is 52.

Why is menopause a health concern for women in their 30s?

Perimenopause begins for most women in their mid-30s when their estrogen level begins to decrease. These women may experience health problems such as with urinary tract or bladder infections.

What are the symptoms of menopause?

Symptoms include hot flashes followed by sweating or chills, vaginal dryness, incontinence, mood swings, heart palpitations, hair loss and urinary tract symptoms. During and following menopause, women are more susceptible to osteoporosis and heart disease.
