Prostate Cancer: How to Beat the Odds

Attention all men 40 and older. September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month and is the perfect time to talk with your doctor about screening for this all-too-common disease. About one in six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer, which is the second leading cause of cancer death in the United States. Fortunately, the survival rate for prostate cancer is high. When To Talk To Your Physician About Early Detection Screenings:

Age 40

You have the highest risk of prostate cancer—two fathers, brothers or sons who have been diagnosed with the disease.

Age 45

You have a high risk of prostate cancer because you are African-American or have a father, brother or son who has been diagnosed with the disease.

Age 50

You have an average risk for prostate cancer.
