What is prostate cancer?

It's cancer of the prostate gland, an organ that surrounds the urethra at the base of the bladder. Prostate cancer affects about 180,000 men each year in the United States.

Who should be tested for prostate cancer?

All men should have a rectal exam and PSA blood test annually, starting at age 50. Men at high risk should begin at age 40. This includes all African Americans and anyone else with a family history of prostate cancer.

What if it's determined that I have prostate cancer?

There are several options, including radiation, surgery, watchful waiting and hormonal therapy.
