Super Foods to the Rescue!

When it comes to healthy eating, not all foods are created equal. The next time you’re grocery shopping, consider some of these super foods, which are loaded with vitamins, minerals and other nutrients.

Salmon is a low-fat, low-calorie source of protein. It’s also packed with omega-3 acids, a healthy fat that helps prevent heart disease, lowers your blood pressure, and reduces the risk of stroke. Salmon is also a good source of vitamin D, which keeps your bones and teeth strong.

Blueberries are loaded with antioxidants, a disease-fighting compound that helps prevent heart disease and some forms of cancer by protecting the body’s cells from damage. Blueberries are also a rich source of vitamin C and fiber.

Almonds are the perfect snack the next time you get the munchies. They not only satisfy your appetite, they also come packed with protein, vitamin E, calcium, fiber and healthy fats. And don’t forget other nutritional nuts. Pistachios, for example, are a good source of potassium, and peanuts provide protein and fiber.

Spinach was Popeye’s favorite food.  And no wonder. Spinach can boost your immune system. It protects against heart disease and age-related eye diseases, such as macular degeneration, as well as some forms of cancer.

Sweet Potatoes are fat-free, low in calories, and loaded with an antioxidant called beta-carotene, which may help slow the aging process and reduce the risk of some cancers.
